Encompassed Ltd give an informative seminar on the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 to over 70 Housing Associations.
The Direct Works Forum requested we deliver an update on the new regulations controlling Asbestos.
It was felt that there was a need to clarify the changes which have taken place as a result of the Control of Asbestos Regulations being introduced in November last year.
Adam Burns, Managing Director of Encompassed, attended the Direct Works Forum event held at the Orton Hall in Peterborough on the 13th March.
The purpose of the visit was to present a 30 minute update on the new regulations which came into force last year.
The presentation was a very useful tool, several Housing Associations were uncertain exactly what the new regulations meant to them.
There were 2 main areas of uncertainty:
The first surrounded the need for Asbestos Awareness Training:
It is now mandatory that maintenance workers, plumbers, electricians, roofers etc all receive Asbestos Awareness Training.
The second area of uncertainty involved changes to the licensing regime regarding Textured Decorative Coatings:
It is now possible for the work to be undertaken by a non-licensed removal company. It is very important to note that this does not mean that anyone can remove Textured Coatings, they are still dangerous materials and operatives with the appropriate training must be used. It is also essential that the employers have received the appropriate training and that they posess the necessary insurances to cover work with Asbestos.
More information is available on both our website and the HSE's.
If in doubt. Ask!
