Asbestos Removal Training - 1-day course - UKATA
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 prevents anyone from removing Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) unless they have receive the correct training which details how such work should be undertaken.
Here at Encompassed we have prepared a customised course that enables people to remove non-licensable ACM’s. It is designed as an extension to our Asbestos Awareness Training which is a mandatory requirement for anyone liable to be exposed to Asbestos. The good news is that the training is less expensive than alternative providers and is tailored to the exact requirements of the workers.
This is particularly useful for people involved in Housing Maintenance, Refurbishments, Demolitions etc. Instead of having to sub-contract removal work to Asbestos Companies, you will be able to undertake certain removal jobs in-house.

If you intend to work or undertake work which could disturb Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) by law you will need additional training:
The HSE have classified some of the lower risk ACM’s as ‘Non-Licensable’. This means that so long as operatives and supervisors have completed a 1-day training course, called ‘Non-Licensed Asbestos Training’, they can work with this classification of materials.
In essence, this means that as a company your workers can be trained to work with Corrugated Roof Sheets, Cement Soffits, Down-pipes & Soil-stacks, Artex, Floor Tiles, Toilet Seats and Cisterns etc.
Ancillary tasks are also covered by this training; a plumber drilling holes in an Artex ceiling to run radiator pipes, an electrician accessing a fuse-box with asbestos textile flash-guards, a fire alarm sensor being installed on a suspended ceiling tile – all ancillary asbestos tasks requiring Non-licensed Training to enable them to be done legally and safely.
Why would you want to do this?
Work with Non-Licensable ACM’s can be a great revenue booster for your business!
The following are what we would consider very competetive prices for the removal of certain Non-Licensed Asbestos Materials:
- Storage Heater (Small one not requiring dismantling) - £195
- Bath Panel (Asbestos Cement) - £195
- Garage - £995
- Artex Ceiling on non ACM board (Kitchen/Dining Room) - £400/£750
As mentioned, these are prices that a licensed asbestos removal company would find very hard to beat; there is probable scope for another 20% on top without pricing yourself out of the job!
In addition to this possible financial gain from offering removals/work on Non-Licensed Asbestos Products there is the added advantage that you will be able to comply with legislation on the occasion that your workers come across a suspect non-licensed ACM that hasn’t been formally identified. They can simply assume the material to be an ACM and work on it following the correct procedures protecting themselves and others.
This is particularly useful for people involved in Housing Maintenance, Refurbishments, and Demolitions etc. Instead of having to sub-contract removal work to Asbestos Companies, you will be able to undertake certain jobs in-house.
Examples of the types of removal possible with this training
- Removal of small amounts of Asbestos Insulating Board (Ceiling Tile, Fire-Door, Access Hatches etc)
- Removal of Asbestos Cement (Corrugated Sheets, Soffits, Down-Pipes & Soil-Stacks, Cladding, Fire-Doors, Bath-Panels etc)
- Removal of Artex Coatings
- Removal of Asbestos Textiles (Rope Seals, Gaskets, Fire-Blankets etc)
- Removal of Composite Products (Vinyl Floor Tiles, Toilet Seats/Cisterns, Fire Hearths, Window Sills)
- Removal of Bitumen Products (Roof-Felt, Cast-Iron Pipes with Paint, DPC’s etc)
Costs
Rather than just provide you with a training course and leave you to it, we aim to leave you in a position to start work with our best efforts to get you to a point where you are compliant with regulatory requirements. This is why we have devised our start-up pack, available for £150 that contains method statements, risk assessments, carriage license applications, PPE/RPE ordering details etc to facilitate a quick entry into works with non-licensable ACM's.
The training course is £890 for 12 delegates (delivered in one-day). Face-fit testing is also a key new requirement, this ensures the masks your operatives are wearing actually do the job required! This is available at a competitive £30pp.
Compare this to the £475/person and a 3-day course offered elsewhere and you can see the value of our tailored course.
